Uni isn't everything...

As many of you will know, it was A-Level results day on Thursday 15th. It was a great day for some who got what they wanted, and not such a great day for others, who failed to gain the results that they expected. I was one of those in the middle. I didn't get great results and was expected a lot better, but I also didn't completely fail. (I go with the whole 'I suck at exams' thing - which is completely true) I must add though, I did (somehow) manage to get an A in my Tsarist Russia exam... the one I thought I'd done the worst in. TSARIST RUSSIA FOR GOD'S SAKE! It's a good job I don't have to resit because all I remember is that the emancipation of the serfs was in 1861, Kornilov was a dickhead and Stolypin was a legend. And I mean LEGEND!

Anyway, I digress...

These results (combined with the work at Ashby Radio) have made me realise that maybe uni isn't the only option. All my life I've been told that, if you want a decent job with a decent wage, you have to slog your guts out, get to uni and do the best degree you can. THIS IS UTTER BULLSHIT! You can work your way up without a degree! My dad never went to uni and he's managed all his life, and is on a pretty pukka wage at the minute...

So since last Monday, all my plans for my life have changed, and this is how it went...

Monday - STILL GONNA BE PRIME MINISTER AND GO TO HULL AND DO POLITICS AND WORK IN WESTMINSTER FOR A YEAR FUCK YEAH

Tuesday - Ok fuck knows what I am going to do with my life

Wednesday - I'm gonna become a drug dealer

Thursday - I give up. I will do nothing with my life. I'm going to lie in the road and cry.

Friday - You know what, fuck this. I want to do journalism  Why did I not see this before?! I've wanted to do it my whole life, then other things have distracted me, but it is the only thing that has always been there. I did work experience with a journalist, I did my coursework as an editorial piece, I did a journalism workshop at De Montfort and fell in love... WHY DID I NOT NOTICE EARLIER? I am so stupid! I want to carry on doing radio. I want a career in radio journalism! John was so right!

I still might go to uni, but not to do politics (as amazing as the British and Legislative Studies course would have been - that is totally serious too, like 100% I love it - ) If I do go to uni, I will be doing journalism, luckily for me, a lot include modules on reporting political news so that'll cheer me up. At the end of the day, there is one PM in this country, but tens, probably hundreds of thousands of journalists. I'm never going to be the best at anything, so why set myself up to fail? I am perfectly happy with being mediocre in society. I can still make a change in my own little world, even if it's not affecting millions of people. It doesn't matter, my world is the only thing that matters. :-)

There are so many people out there who have graduated from uni and either don't have a job, or are doing stupid menial jobs in supermarkets or call centres, so what's the point in spending over £30,000 when I can get to where I want to be for free. :') This doesn't mean uni is completely off the cards, and I will still apply next year, but it's not set in stone anymore. For the first time in my life, I feel like I am completely in control and whatever decision I make in the next year will completely change my life. It will make me or break me. So no pressure...

Thanks for reading. To anyone who got their A-Level results this week, or is getting their GCSE results next week, congratulations if you did well, but if you didn't, just remember, there is NEVER only one option, so cheer the fuck up!
